Oh Snap! The pivot has begun

On Friday I wrote that we had likely reached the point when the Obama campaign would pivot away from a focus on Romney's finances and business practices in the past and towards making the case for the choice between the two candidates and their plans for the future.
So I'd suggest that we'll be seeing a bit of a shift in the Obama campaign strategy in the coming weeks. Continuing the tit-for-tat attacks would only aid the Republicans as voters get more cynical about the whole process. Its time to clarify the choice. And instead of a focus on the candidate's past, its time we started to look...

And what do you know?! Here's the ad they released today.

No, that prediction did not require a mind-meld with David Plouffe :-)

Some of us have been following this candidate and his team very closely now for 4-5 years and have gotten to know their style.

This is not a team that was going to spend 4 months attacking their opponent. There was a reason for all of that...to lay the groundwork for American voters to understand why Romney would support things like MORE tax cuts for the wealthy and voucherizing Medicare to pay for them.

I suspect that in the coming months there will be a refresher course here and there about Bain and Romney's tax returns. But overall, its time to move on to making the case about the choice the American people will face on November 6th.

  1. Policy aside, we have an extremely good candidate, and they don't.

  2. Agreed. Pundits and 'analysts' continue to talk as though PBO is a one trick pony. Also, this silly idea that Romney can release his tax returns, and get this whole thing 'behind' him, irritates me.

PBO is building a narrative. As you said, it is his style. The willful blindness of campaign watchers makes me want to scream. The unwillingness of the MSM to call out the Romney campaign for blatant dishonesty is making me ill. I knew it would be ugly, but I am still struck by the cowardice of those whose job it is to inform the public. They act like mediators rather than investigators & journalists. Sad times.

I believe PBO will win a second term. My hope is that republicans will overplay their hand to the point of totally unmasking themselves, and Democrats will win majorities.

Our worst enemy is not our political opponents, it is the apathy and ignorance of the voting public.

Those who aren't patient enough to see the long game - ALWAYS miss the point.

    2. PBO is a basketball guy. The 4th quarter is coming and that's money time. Take your game to the next 3 levels take control and close it out.

  3. Plouffe is a political genius, and Obama is always in it for the long game. And it's awesome to watch.

  4. The Romney campaign has no plan other than to sling mud. The people running that campaign are amateurs and are playing defense all along. The fact that they haven't created any advertising that promotes their guy and rely solely on creating ads that tear down the President (which means they have to wait around for the President to say something they can distort) shows their lack of planning. They aren't building a narrative because they don't know how to build anything...only destroy things. They have been completely boxed in by the Obama campaign. It is a thing of beauty. Good call, Smartypants.
