Naw, nothing racist here...move right along

Mike Huckabee this morning on Fox and Friends:
There are some people in this country who need food stamps. There are people who need help. We understand that. We don't want to make ever a situation where there is not a need for some of those programs. But when you start expanding government programs that enslave people rather than empower them to come off of those programs with the job and dignity of work, then that's the opposite effect of what those programs were intended to do. They were supposed to be a ladder out of a hole. Not a top on the hole to keep you there.
We're talking about food stamps here you asshole! You know...what families with children need so they don't go hungry.

And surely, no one is going to miss that "slave" reference given the fact that the ONLY people to have experienced that particular condition in this country are African Americans. We also remember that you are the same guy who compared welfare recipients to roaches. How's that christian thing workin out for ya Mike?

Nuff said. This guy gets my blood boiling. Can you tell?

But seriously, this guy has a prime-time gig at the Republican National Convention. If anyone wants to bet on who is most likely to produce a Pat Buchanan moment this year, its Mike Huckabee. So far he's on record igniting the Chick-Fil-A battledefending Todd Akin's comments, and now calling welfare/food stamp recipients enslaved cockroaches.

No one in the party is doing such a good job of showing just how hateful and divisive the Republicans are these days.

  1. One of the ways I understand the peculiarities of fundamentalist religious fervor is that it's a business model for people on the outside of mainstream channels of capital formation. It's social mobility for people otherwise lacking opportunity. Huckabee is branding himself, and always has been. He may believe in something, even possibly the things he says. But it's marketing to a target demographic. I am convinced Huckabee, who seems to me the smart one of that crew, has always approached politics from that angle. Deep sociopathy.

    1. You're SOOO right.

As an example, I have a couple of extended family members who profit from these people's craving for "christian" music. Something I'm sure you would appreciate is that their lack of real talent would mean that they'd have to pursue other careers if it weren't for this niche market. But it exists, so they pretend like they're some kind of rock stars...pathetic!

    2. I once returned home to see a business card a gardener had left. Had the Christian fish symbol on it. That's when I understood.

And yes, it pains me how people can make a living making bad music that Pastor approves of. It's my own character defect, truly.

  2. Huck feels so fervently about his principals that he would rather make money on Faux and sell racist, bigoted CD's intended to brainwash children than serve his party and his country as President. Nuff said

    1. Do you think Huckabee ever thought he had a shot at being President? I certainly don't.

  3. SOoooo ...let me see if I have this right. Biden talks about being chained and he gets hammered...Mike Huckabee says that we are enslaved by the government. Interesting concept, goose and gander doesn't work for the right, we know that all to well.
We also know that the republican side of congress has failed to allow passage of President Obama's jobs bill.

WHERES THESE JOBS YOU WANT US TO WORK AT?

I am a 59 year old Caucasian who, by virtue of the housing collapse have had to except food stamps to help care for my physically handicapped wife and equally handicapped 24 year old son. I haven't been able to find full time work for 5 years now because of the greedy bastards this man and the minions on the right support. I want to know what they want someone, who has spent their entire life building the roads, bridges, buildings for business and homes, to do when they can not find employment in the still stagnant construction industry. An industry that is notorious for hiring young healthy men and women. Every single time I have been interviewed for a job in another job market I am told the same thing. They would hire me because of my management experience, but the job doesn't pay what they know I have and can still command in construction. They do not want to spend the time and money to train some one who they feel will leave if a job in construction becomes available. Thanks to the mentality on the right I am 6 months behind on my mortgage, 2 months on my utilities and wondering when they are going to turn them off. I have no cash coming in and have to rely on friends and neighbors for the necessities like toilet paper, dish, clothes and body soaps. I have now been forced to apply for disability. I hate it. I have always been proud that I took care of myself and my family. The physical abuse to my body, working in construction, have taken their toll certainly, but it pales in comparison to the emotional toll that I have had to endure the last 5 years. The fact that these same greedy bastards that caused this to happen now want to remove the means that I, and millions like me, rely on absolutely enrages me.

    1. Larry,

Thanks for being willing to share your experience.

What I can tell you is that it only serves to motivate me even more to do all I can to make sure the bastards who perpetuate this shit don't get elected to office.

    3. Thanks for sharing your story, Larry. How anyone can support a political party that doesn't take care of its citizens makes me angry. I'm sick and tired of the RW's selfishness. They, not you, are the real moochers. They want something for nothing. They don't want to pay an extra penny's worth of taxes, they want to starve the government by more giving tax cuts to those who don't need them, and they approve of cutting social programs, leaving millions in a situation similar to yours. The most offensive thing to me is that they're always talking about how "Christian" they are. Well, Jesus said that Christians should show/demonstrate their Christianity for the world to see. These people aren't real Christians. They'd snatch the food out of their fellow citizens' mouths in order to give another subsidy to an energy company. IMHO, the radical republican politicians are guilty of political malfeasance, and the sooner they're banished from our political landscape, the better. They have pushed all moderate republicans from their own party. I'm praying everyday that President Obama wins re-election in November, and that democrats win enough seats in Congress so that people like you and your family can get the assistance that you need. You deserve it. You earned it. You paid taxes for most of your life, and now that you're experiencing financial problems, the government shouldn't turn its back on you. When I tell republican supporters that I don't mind paying more in taxes to help people like you, they think I'm nuts. I'm not nuts, but they are because as a Christian, I don't feel it's right to take a hardline against people whose current circumstances are bad through no fault of their own. They need to understand that one cannot follow Ayn Rand and Jesus Christ at the same time.
