A little home state bragging

People usually think of Minnesota as a "blue state." And pretty generally that's true. But anyone who's been paying attention here knows its more complicated than that. Just throwing out names like Ventura and Pawlenty should suffice.

Back in 2010 we elected a Democratic Governor (Mark Dayton) and in a historical move, a Republican State House and Senate. You might remember that it led to a government shut-down not too long after the election.

But after yesterday our liberal forebearers can rest a bit easier...we kicked butt and took names in this state.

First of all, we helped re-elect President Barack Obama (53/47) - thus being one of the triumvirate of states that saved David Axelrod's mustache ;-)

Secondly, we kicked the Republican bums out of the State House AND Senate. Democrats now hold the governorship as well as a majority in both legislative branches.

Thirdly, we defeated two constitutional amendments that were on the ballot...one requiring voter ID and the other restricting marriage to one man/one woman.

Finally, Democrat Rick Nolan took back the House seat that had once been held by James Oberstar for 35 years. In 2010, Tea Partier Chip Cravaack beat Oberstar - but that little detour only lasted for 2 years thanks to the smart people of Duluth.

Oh, and one more thing...with over 60% of the vote, my city voted to increase property taxes for our local school district.

My gawd it feels good to be blue again!!!!!

(I know we let you all down by not sending Michelle Bachmann home in tears. But we came close this time and promise to keep trying on that one.)

  1. WTG, Awesome! We in Iowa still have to oust the nutcase Steve King :( I was sure our former Iowa First Lady Christie Vilsack (Gov. Tom Vilsack's wife) could beat him.
