The Republican's next hostage - Susan Rice

So the meeting Susan Rice had with Senators McCain, Graham and Ayotte didn't go well...surprise, surprise.
John McCain and other Republican senators said Tuesday they would oppose elevating Susan Rice to secretary of State until she and other officials answer more questions about the Sept. 11 attack in Libya.

"We are significantly troubled by many of the answers that we got and some that we didn't get," McCain, R-Ariz., said after meeting with the United Nations ambassador who could be President Obama's next nominee for the State Department.

Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H., who also attended the meeting, said of Rice: "I would hold her nomination until I had additional answers to questions."
The minute I heard that Senator Ayotte joined these two knuckleheads in the meeting, I knew what was up. These are the same three that have been screaming the loudest about the $500 billion in cuts to defense spending that are set to kick in on January 1, 2013 as part of the debt ceiling deal.

All the whoopla about the negotiations related to the so-called "fiscal cliff" has been about taxes and entitlements. But cuts to entitlements are NOT set to kick in on Jan. 1st - thanks to the superior negotiating done by President Obama and the Democrats. On the other hand, what people have been forgetting about are the defense cuts that were included.

These three are going to use this whole Benghazi nonsense as a justification for holding up the nomination of Ambassador Rice to be Secretary of State. They've renewed their commitment to do that when/if President Obama nominates her. And they'll block her until the defense cuts are restored.

That's what all this is about. How Ambassador Rice handled the situation in Benghazi is just a distraction.

  1. 'Afternoon, Ms. Pants

As always, THANK YOU for the clarity.

"Governance" through hostage taking. These damn R's are REALLY ridiculous. And, as you've probably seen, Benen points out that, alREADY, Boehner has signaled that we are in for more drama re: the new debt ceiling.

I REALLY just want to do SERIOUS bodily harm to our Leftist "intelligencia" who encouraged us to stay home back in '10.

    And, to they that did.

    1. Sometimes you have to wonder why PBO would even sign up for 4 more years of this crap when he clearly doesn't need it. It must be exhausting! But he just marches on...cool as can be.

    2. I'm really beginning to wonder if the far left really wielded that much power in 2010. I think the sporadic Dems just didn't vote because they figured they didn't need to. They'd done their jobs by electing Obama, so they could sit on their collective thumbs and everything would be okay. The die was cast long before the polls even opened: the other side was fueled by rage and more organized. The pundits just gave the lazy Dems the excuse they needed to do what they were going to do anyway, which was not vote.

  2. I like your theory very much. Mine was about them wanting to vacate Kerry's seat. Yours holds more water. Whichever and/or both theories end up being correct, the truth is still the same: this is not about Rice. It's about another agenda. Good catch.

  3. Tien Le, you're probably correct.

I still remember it and thought how inCREADibly DUMB from people who aren't supposed to be this directive was.

But, talk about an election that had some consequences.

And, yes....the "Dr. Rice Caper" is most assuredly about something else. I just didn't know what in the heck it was.

I know, like many of us, that I'm really gettin' tired of this STUpid presentation of how the greatest country on earth has such craziness attempting to control it.

  5. Now Susan Collins is on the attack wagon and she openly said Senator Kerry would be easy to confirm. It's looking more like this really is about the Senate.
