They want things the way they were instead of how they can or should be in a very complicated world. I liken it to children who worship their parents as infallible and then the reality that their parents are not super heroes crushes them. Children eventually become adults and realize that even imperfect parents can be awesome and inspiring.Shaw Kenawehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08637273000409613497noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7163441833245663827.post-16448746983391591892014-09-08T15:47:42.512-05:002014-09-08T15:47:42.512-05:00Thank you for recalling these words, because it se...Thank you for recalling these words, because it seems that many in the mainstream political media and on the Far Left have flushed them down the memory hole.Marc McKenziehttp://redshoulder.deviantart.com/gallery/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7163441833245663827.post-55228217426440854592014-09-08T13:25:34.263-05:002014-09-08T13:25:34.263-05:00In the United States the sovereign is the citizenr...In the United States the sovereign is the citizenry ("We The People" is not just a flowery turn of phrase).

(Please note that this does not mean the same thing as the Sovereign Citizen movement. In that conception, each citizen of the United States is a sovereign unto themselves. A sovereign citizenry is different because it implies the sovereignty rests with the citizenry *as a whole*, not just each individual.)

It may be good to be king, but it is never easy.Chris Andersenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18139817527808942227noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7163441833245663827.post-13865717708041776112014-09-08T13:22:04.073-05:002014-09-08T13:22:04.073-05:00When you read comments like Bruni's you begin ...When you read comments like Bruni's you begin to see why so many of the press just rolled over for Bush prior to the war in Iraq. The press conference Dubya gave in the final days leading up to the start of fighting was one of the saddest days in journalism. The press was not just cowed but, as Bruni demonstrates, they wanted to be cowed.

It's so much easier to abdicate responsibility when a strong daddy shows up.Chris Andersenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18139817527808942227noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7163441833245663827.post-53954477932533140002014-09-08T12:47:30.159-05:002014-09-08T12:47:30.159-05:00I wonder whether these attitudes are part of a gen...I wonder whether these attitudes are part of a general "reluctance" towards democracy that has plagued American society since the days of slavery. We desire so much a government that is "above us", which shields ourselves of the responsibilities demanded of us in a real government of the people.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7163441833245663827.post-23211696728915120412014-09-08T11:33:36.654-05:002014-09-08T11:33:36.654-05:00It's no surprise that nearly every decision Ob...It's no surprise that nearly every decision Obama makes (or doesn't make) seems to send so many people into a tizzy. With all of the craziness that has surrounded his presidency, the maturity of his leadership was cemented a long time ago.

I'm often reminded of what Obama said during his victory speech in Nov 2008:

"There will be setbacks and false starts. There are many who won't agree with every decision or policy I make as president. And we know the government can't solve every problem.

But I will always be honest with you about the challenges we face. I will listen to you, especially when we disagree. And, above all, I will ask you to join in the work of remaking this nation, the only way it's been done in America for 221 years -- block by block, brick by brick, calloused hand by calloused hand.

What began 21 months ago in the depths of winter cannot end on this autumn night.

This victory alone is not the change we seek.
