Frum levels the most devastating Romney critique of all

The title of David Frum's post today says it all: Romney: Too Weak?
It's not just his arguments that are weak. For the past year, we have watched him be pushed around by the radical GOP fringe...

...at every point, Romney has surrendered to the fringe of his party. Weak. And now in his first tough encounter with Barack Obama, Romney is being shoved around again. This is not what a president looks like - anyway, not a successful president.
While many of us have admired Frum's sanity lately, its important to remember that he is a Republican. And perhaps more importantly, he's been a strong supporter of Mitt Romney. So when he levels a charge like "weak" at his preferred candidate, people should take note.

Its also important to keep in mind that the Republicans have completely wedded themselves to manly white heterosexual men as their base. Being weak to these folks is nothing short of anathema.

I tend to think that BooMan is right...Romney doesn't have a choice. He's taking the only road he has available to someone with his past and platform. That means he either continues to take the path he's been on and look weak, or he blows up his whole campaign. Which one will it be Mitt?

  1. Needless to say, it's amusing to watch Romney flounder. But it's ever more amusing to watch Romney complain about the "negative attacks" from the Obama campaign.

Of course, this is the same Romney who unabashedly launched a barrage of negative campaign ads against his former republican presidential rivals, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum, earlier this year.

Here's my unsolicited advice to the media -- the next time you hear Romney and his campaign surrogates whining about the campaign ads from the Obama campaign, please take a few minutes to remind them of what Romney said in February 2012:

    Via CNN --

Mitt Romney said Thursday his opponents complain too much about the political ad wars taking place among the campaigns and super PACs, arguing the competition is important for the Republican presidential nominating process.

“Look, it's not something I'm going to whine about. I know there are some candidates that want to whine about the fact that in campaigns you go back and forth, to talk about the distinctions between one another,” Romney said on Fox News. “But let's talk about a process that gets us to a nominee."

  2. I've had some intense discussions with people on FB when I mentioned in the past that Romney is a liar. Now that I've been proven right, I get no response to the information I post about how Romney lied about the year he actually cut ties with Bain. I guess the conservatives are embarrassed that they've been lied to, but anyone who has been listening to Romney's campaign speeches knows that he is an habitual liar. I don't think it bodes well for Romney that so many republicans are speaking out about his secrecy regarding his tax records and financial statements. Frum is right to point out how Romney capitulates to the far right every single time. This isn't leading, it's being led by a fringe movement within the GOP and running the risk of alienating the moderates in the Republican Party. Romney's like a puppet who moves in response to the fringe GOPers. When PBO was running for POTUS in 2008, he didn't change his positions. He knew who he was and had a firm vision for the country. Romney shouldn't have anything else to say about PBO's being a "weak" leader since the president has demonstrated that he says/does what he wants to say/do no matter whether anyone, even democrats, like it or not. A president doesn't order the death/capture of OBL and doesn't spend precious political capital saving Detroit or passing HCR if he is weak. IMO, the challenges that PBO has taken on successfully prove that he is a strong leader.

  3. Romney couldn't lead his own self out of a wet paper bag! He's in the middle of a hot mess of his own creation & whining about how every one is being 'mean' to him.

This is the big leagues, Bebe! You don't just get handed the Presidency of this country because you think it should be "your turn" & you "deserve it" That's the kind of caca I see in my 3 year old grandson. It doesn't get him very far at all & he's a lot cuter than the Mittster.

Why Christian nationalists fear freedom

For years now a lot of us have been trying to understand why white evangelical voters remain so loyal to Donald Trump. I believe that the an...
