Republicans can't stop themselves from saying stupid stuff

The "outreach" memo went out. Republicans were told to stop saying stupid stuff about the demographic groups they are alienating...Latinos, gays, women, young people, etc. But they just can't help themselves.

And its not just the lunatics. So-called "establishment" Republicans are still at it as well. Take for example Bill Kristol echoing Jonah Goldberg in condemning young people as know-nothings.

Appearing on The Weekly Standard podcast...this weekend, Kristol chuckled his way through dismissing those young “liberals” and their pro-gay marriage views as know-nothings who shouldn’t be any sort of measure for how the GOP conducts itself going forward...
“Not only will those earn the contempt of people who believe in defending traditional marriage,” he said, but they won’t even get credit for hopping onto the bandwagon.

“This kind of pathetic attempt to say, ‘Oh, my God! Young people especially are liberal so let’s just rush to cater to them,’ as if they’re going to respect you if you just embrace the views of some 26-year-old who doesn’t know anything honestly.”...

Kristol and the podcast host also mocked that by possibly shifting on same-sex marriage, the GOP would just be catering to the mentality of popular sitcoms. Yes, because that’s where young people today get all of their pro-gay views — not from, you know, tolerance and a general unwillingness to mimic the pearl-clutching social conservatism of their parents’ generation.
Oh, but of course young people should be listening to the opinions of older folks like Kristol who have such a great track record of knowing things...like this little gem from the 2008 election.
Sarah Palin is quickly proving to be more than a match for the mad, mad media. Having foolishly started a war with her that they can't win, the liberal media would be well advised, for once, to implement their own favorite war-fighting strategy: cut and run.
Ah yes, the former half-term Governor of Alaska proved to be such a mighty foe!

All I can say is "keep digging folks." Its not like you need the next generation to keep your party from succumbing to its death throes.

  2. With this issue, and almost every other one involving Republicans (especially in Southern states), I feel like I'm watching just another version of the Scopes Monkey Trial.

  3. Well, have to say I agree with him when he says they aren't going to listen to the Republicans anyway.
