Two speeches...one hero

Today two people stood on the world stage to speak their minds. The contrast was stark. One was Edward Snowden and the other Malala Yousafzai. In the the short 16 years of her life, the latter has been the only one of the two to demonstrate real heroism.

From the time she was only 11 years old, Malala has been speaking up for herself and others against violence and repression. Last year she was shot in the face and neck for doing so.

You can listen to Malala's speech here. Anyone who is paying attention knows that this young woman is a true hero and that she is going to change the world.

  1. The self indulgent narcissistic faux left never sacrifices anything but believes flamboyance is heroics. Snowden is a sneak and thief who did one grandstanding thing and fled. Malala put her very young life on the line and continues to do so. The failure to be able to distinguish between real commitment and theater weakens our credibility with those whose lives have been about selflessness and principle.

    1. To make the difference even more stark, Snowden fled before he did his grandstanding, and is now whining constantly that he can't go wherever he wants, and isn't being treated like a hero. Yet there stands a young woman who not only did risk her life, she almost lost it and still refuses to give up.

  2. I don't think it's necessary to put down Snowden in order to praise Malala. We don't know anyone's motivations. Each showed courage but in different ways. Comparisons miss the point.

    1. I have yet to see Snowden demonstrate courage. If you don't like the comparison - feel free to ignore it. I found it useful in clarifying what real heroism looks like.
