For a while now I have been focusing on documenting the accomplishments of Attorney General Eric Holder and the Department of Justice - especially the Civil Rights Division.I included stories about how the Civil Rights Division of DOJ was investigating police departments for "patterns and practices" of misconduct as well as hiring lawyers with actual experience in civil rights - even highlighting some of the amazing people that are, in large part I'm sure, responsible for the investigation recently conducted in Ferguson, MO.
That's partly because no other federal department was more distorted and dismantled than this one during the Bush years. Mr. Holder had a huge job walking into that mess and I've been more than a little impressed with how he's performed.
In addition, some critics of the Obama administration try to say that he's not done enough for the African American community. These stories put a lie to that critique.
That is what led to this report and these remarks by AG Eric Holder today.
Sometimes justice is not achieved in the heat of the moment. But if we lay the ground work and then use those resources effectively, we can get there. I'm so proud that our Attorney General has been willing to do just that.
Start a snowball rolling, people laugh. Until it's too late.
