I probably never would have decided to go to Netroots Nation, but this year its coming to me. All the festivities will be taking place less than 10 miles from my humble abode. So I've signed up to go. I know they try to bill this thing as bigger than a Daily Kos gathering, but the truth is, that blog is the heart of it. Since I haven't spent much time there in over a year - I'm feeling more like an observer than a participant.
One of the reasons I signed up is that someone I've come to know and admire - Deoliver47 - is not only coming to the convention, she's going to stay with me. I invited her to come a day early and give a talk to my staff at work about her lifelong involvement in "the struggle." I can't wait!
But I tend to not be very good in large crowds and there are certainly a few people at Daily Kos that I've burned some bridges with over the years, so I'd be lying if I didn't say I have some mixed feelings about the whole thing.
Anyway, I say all this for a couple of reasons. First of all, if by some chance any of the few of you who read here are planning on going - please let me know because I'd love to meet you! And secondly, I don't know what my blogging time will look like next week. Perhaps some wonderful things will happen and I'll want to write about them. Maybe I'll be bored to death and need something to keep me occupied. And there's a chance I'll be too busy to say much of anything until its over. I have no idea what to expect. So I'll just ride it as it comes.

Hi Smartypants
ReplyDeleteGood for you! It always takes a special person to put aside trepidations for a friend. Besides, I will be very interested in your assessments, observations, etc. so I hope you will drop a few notes here. I cannot stomach DKOS after being an ardent snooper for years.
Take care.

ReplyDeleteWell...SOMEbody has got to do it.
I just saw who some of the speakers are gonna be.
My respect for you continues to grow.
But, do know that you are gonna be in my prayers.
Methinks your head is gonna HURT. A LOT!!!
Enjoy your time with Deoliver47, though.
THAT should help a lot.
REALLY will be curious re: your resulting perspectives.
So I take it that neither or you are going to be joining me at NN. LOL
ReplyDeleteThanks for the support. I'm thinking I'll approach it like I'm a reporter observing it all. That should give me some comfortable distance and perhaps some perspective as well.
