And they wonder why more African Americans aren't involved in OWS?

From everything I've seen on blogs and twitter...last night was HUGE!

Not only did President Obama make the heart of every woman with even a touch of soul swoon, he did so while being the very first president to ever visit Harlem's legendary Apollo Theater at a fundraiser hosted by Spike Lee (perhaps as legendary as an actual person gets these days).

Enter OWS.

Protesters broadcast their anger with signs and jeers, including Bob Nash, who came to protest from Cold Spring Harbor with a sign criticizing Obama for his relationship with Wall Street.

“Wall Street has been bailed out and the American people have been sold out because of Obama,” he said.

Others sang, “Obama is a Nazi.”

I have two words for you folks...disgusting bullshit! I won't dignify your actions with anything further.

But if you need any more evidence that this so-called "movement" has descended into the dustbin of irrelevance with their partners in the tea party - there you have it.

  1. Ron Paul beckons. Their white sheets are seriously showing.

  2. It didn't go over well with the local residents. They made it very clear that they did not appreciate the OWS people being there, or their statements.

    1. I'm sure they did. Harlem is under 'occupation' of a different sort with gentrification. I'm pretty darn sure they didn't like what was going on.

  3. To be fair - this is not a new claim or complaint by OWS. They have been clear from the beginning that they believe all levels of government have been unduly affected by corporate money (I believe that general principle as well).

I don't agree that POTUS is as bad as some others, nor a corporate stooge. But the general "get money out of politics" is a view I share.

    1. It seems like you're missing several large points:

      1. "Obama is a Nazi" - as 100% over-the-top as it gets. I can't even begin to describe how far.

      2. First POTUS to visit Apollo. You respect what that means to people and take this elsewhere.

      3. Who's the president that got creamed for taking on the SCOTUS about Citizens' United in a SOTU speech? You want to undermine one of the few elected officials with the guts to do that?

The whole thing was nothing short of insane.

    1. These folks literally couldn't buy a clue.

That level of ignorance should be embarrassing.

  5. Part of the problem with a leaderless and decentralized "movement" is that no one has any control over who claims to speak for it. Here on the west coast, too, several massively stupid things have been done by people claiming to be Occupiers, but it's an open question how much of the movement as a whole agrees with it.

  6. Amen! I am so sick of this group and their flailing about, screeching like howler monkeys at every one. How about occupying the voting booths, occupying the campaigning, occupy the choices you make to represent where you live? All it seems to be devolving into is a backdrop for a Michael Moore "documentary" entitled "Folks who wear suits are mean!"

  7. I have a few sophomoric statements to make about these occupiers. I will keep them to myself for now. I really don't have time for their rudderless movement.

  8. Most folks have already stated what I would've said about how silly that was. Thanks Smartypants!

  9. Problem really is that one has no real way to distinquish authentic #OWS from trojan horses (TeaParty, rightwingers, etc.) who show up with another agenda.

  10. Interesting that The Prez did 4 fund raisers last night, 3 on the upper east side and one in Harlem. And which one did ows choose to protest.

    2. Also, seems like they overlooked Willard R's 'Wall Street' visit a couple days earlier.

"To illustrate the point, Mitt Romney was here this week at Steven Schwarzman's home, the CEO of the powerful private equity firm Blackstone Group. Romney was at Scharzman's swank apartment building at 740 Park Avenue where David Koch also happens to live. Oh, did I mention John Thain also lives there too? As well as John Paulsen? Yes...740 Park Avenue is one of the most "chock-full-o-bankers" buildings in Manhattan. It was a private equity orgy of rich bankers plotting even more diabolical schemes with Mitt Romney as their front man.
      ...
Seems like a tailor-made Occupy event, right? Here's what Occupy had to say about it:

  11. Thanks, Smartypants! Most POC I know have given the side eye to OWS since it started. OWS has become as ridiculous as the teapotty but way less organized. Last, all I have to say is don't mess with Harlem! Those OWS got some real push back last night and Twitter is ripping them ragged today. FOOLS!!!

  12. I was a bit stunned by this comment from Allison Kilkenny:

"... failure on the part of some Harlem residents to imagine that maybe - just maybe - Obama hasn't made stellar decisions at every turn."

Oh really. Written by someone who isn't accustomed to working twice as hard to get half a loaf ... and being grateful all that work produced half a loaf rather than nothing at all.
