If the election were held today

Over at Daily Kos, Markos took TPM's aggregation of the latest polling data from the swing states and produced this map of what would happen if the presidential election were held today.

That's 341 electoral votes for Obama (270 needed to win) which is only 24 less than the 365 he got in 2008. The states he won last time where he's currently not leading are Indiana (probably a fluke in 2008) and Iowa (where the average has Obama down by less than 2 points - so still possible).

I know an awful lot will happen between now and election day in November. But by gawd this looks good after all the doom and gloom we've been hearing for the last year!

  1. Hey SP,
Can you believe the media has done this whole meme this week on the basis of a BS threat from KKKarl Rove?

I am so sick of the media games. With a map like the one above you have to ask where is the media getting their information.

  3. Rather astonishing since this implies that Obama could lose Florida and Ohio and still win. But it's encouraging.

Still, I'm with Insipid. This is definitely a winnable election, but we can't afford complacency -- especially if it makes the poutragers think Obama has this thing in the bag and they can afford to waste their votes on another Nader. And, too, Congress is just as important. We can relax -- and celebrate -- after the election.
