So Romney wants to talk about Bill Clinton? GREAT!

For weeks now it has appeared as if Mitt Romney doesn't want to talk about anything but President Obama. If you notice, he isn't rolling out his own ideas about how to do things like create jobs or deal with the economy. His message has been solely focused on reacting to the president.

But it appears as though he's finally found something else to talk about.
Mitt Romney seems to have found a constant companion on the campaign trail these days. It's not his wife. And it's not any of the revolving cast of veep wannabees who have hit the hustings with the presumptive nominee over these last weeks.

Nope.

It's Bill Clinton.

Speaking at the Fort Des Moines hotel here Tuesday to about 200 people under a "Cut the Spending" banner, Romney name-dropped Clinton, as if he was a Friend of Bill.
I say, "Great idea Mitt...lets talk Clinton!"

Here's where I'd start. If you want to talk spending, lets see what Bill Clinton said about Obama's stimulus package.
Former President Bill Clinton said he likes the economic stimulus— it just wasn’t big enough.

“I think the stimulus did as well as it could have done — there just wasn’t enough of it,” Clinton told reporters Tuesday...

Clinton has made his support for the stimulus package clear in the past, telling Fox News in 2009: “I think the stimulus package is well conceived. A lot of it puts money in people’s hands, with the unemployment benefits and the food stamps and the tax cuts. A lot of it keeps the states and local governments from laying off a million more people or having big tax increases with the aid to education and health. And then I think the energy and the infrastructure investments will create the jobs the president wants. So I like the conception of that.”
Oh, so that's not what you were referring to Mitt? Lets try something else. How about what Clinton thinks about your ideas on the economy?
At a fundraiser Sunday evening, Bill Clinton appeared with President Obama and made the case that, without mentioning him by name, Mitt Romney is pushing George W. Bush’s agenda, only worse.

Romney “basically wants to do what they did before, on steroids,” Clinton said, “which will get you the same consequences you got before, on steroids.”
Oops, I guess that's not it either, is it Mitt? NO ONE wants to be compared to that last person you guys elected, now do they?

Maybe we better try something other than the economy. How about what Clinton has to say about national security?

Well so far this isn't going too well for you is it Mitt? Maybe its time to try something else.

  1. It would be wonderful if the Romney camp wanted to make this election a comparison of George W. Bush v. Clinton.

Republicans don't want to invoke W because people still realize Bush/Cheney and the Republican controlled House and Senate caused the recession, started ignorant wars based on lies.

If Romney wants to proclaim himself the receptor of George W(orst President Ever) Bush's baton then great it'll be another landslide win for President Obama.

  2. The really mind-bending part of this is that when it comes to policy, Romney clearly aligns himself with Bush. But now he wants to try and claim the mantle of Clinton as a cover.

I can't help but wonder how that one will play with the wingnuts. Perhaps he thinks he doesn't have to worry about them anymore now that the etch-a-sketch has been shaken clean.

  3. I think Romney's chance to pull the nonsense he's pulling has passed him by. There's a permanent record of anything a public figure says nowadays. He's "severely conservative" now. He's committed himself to lying and now it's time for consequences on November.
