On November 12, faith, immigrant rights and labor leaders announced the launch of “Fast for Families: A Call for Immigration Reform and Citizenship,” taking place on the National Mall, steps away from the Capitol. Leaders and immigrant members of the community will fast every day and night, abstaining from all food—except water—to move the hearts and compassion of members of Congress to pass immigration reform with a path to citizenship.I watched as union, faith and civil rights leaders visited these fasters in a show of solidarity. And then something interesting started happening.

And then this morning brought a couple of important visitors.

Gawd, I LOVE this President!!!!! Think about the last time we saw a POTUS provide this kind of support for an activist movement. I'll give you a hint...never.
This is why I love the president, too.
ReplyDeleteI believe this is why republicans and some democrats hate the president. He became president to serve all the people in America. He really did want to change how washington was working. He wanted to make sure this country represented all of the people, not just the few and wealthy. He wants to make america and the world a better place for all of our children. He has succeeded and accomplished most of what he campaigned on, despite all the obstruction. He has exposed those who have gotten very wealthy, but haven't done anything to better their lives. He's, also, shown that government itself isn't the problem, but it's the people we elect to represent us that is. We have to be an active part in the process.
You are right on point with your comment sjterrid, I wasn't aware of all the others that have stopped by the tents to give their support. I wish this immigration reform would just get done already. There really is no reason not to, except for the Republicans. Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and Smartypants am so glad you are back. (((hugs))). welcome home.
DeleteThanks, Roberta in MN.
DeleteMaybe some of you have seen the Fasters covered in the MSM. I haven't. Oh sure. Every word that come from the mouth of someone like Sarah Palin is all over the networks, but people putting their lives on the line for a more than worthy cause - crickets. I am as disgusted with the media in the country as I am with the Tea/Republicans/Libertarians.
ReplyDeleteI am so thankful for President Obama and the First Lady.
I, too, am so disgusted with the lack of coverage by the "media"! I think have big names come down may be a media strategy!
