Has anyone ever seen Maureen Dowd and Peggy Noonan in the same room?
I'm not totally sure why these two women get under my skin so much. I suppose it has to do with their very obvious "daddy issues" (a sure sign of budding authoritarianism) and my distaste for the form of bullying most common with women - relational aggression.
In their two columns I linked above, they both compare President Obama with another leader (men, of course) that they admire at the moment - and find him wanting. I'll give Noonan props for swinging for the rafters in her comparison of the President to Pope John Paul II. Dowd doesn't have the imagination to aim any higher than Adam Silver.
But what they both do is cloak their nasty digs with pearl-clutching concern trolling. Its obvious they're pissed as hell but lack the intestinal fortitude to simply say so. In other words, they fight dirty.
Let's get honest, girls...its obvious that something about this President threatens you to your core. You might want to explore that in the privacy of a conversation with your therapist. After you've done that, perhaps you'll have something worthwhile to say. Whether you ultimately agree with President Obama or not - at least we'd have two of the very few women who are given national platforms in the media not acting like spoiled angry school girls.
Yep, that's why you piss me off. And no, I don't have to hide that anger behind some vicious concern trolling.

Interesting that Noonan admires the man that "could have prevented “thousands” of children from being raped by pedophile priests but instead chose to ignore the scandal in the interests of protecting the image of the Catholic Church". Not even Dowd agrees with her about John Paul.

I am just amazed at how stupid both articles are. I never liked either one of them, but you know Noonan was a Ragun writer. She is still living in l980, she should really look at her mentor, but that would be facing the fact they have begun a route to destroy this country and she participated in it, but expects this President to fix 30++ years of destruction. Man I really dislike these 2 writers.
ReplyDeleteNancy your are right about the "daddy figure" for DM, but Noonan uses her narcisstic self and disappear. I hadn't read those articles until now. Now I have a sour taste in my mouth. Apparently they just can't believe that this President just doesn't give a crap what these people think and they don't like his agenda. Too bad ladies.
I wonder what they know about their bosses. There's no way you could work for me, write that puerile fuckery, and expect a six figure salary.

Yep,, they're the mean girls, who try to maintain their 'popularity' by cutting down everyone else so everyone is afraid to disagree. They must think (evidence to the contrary) that President Obama just shakes in his shoes wondering what they will say next. Their problem is he doesn't care, very few people care, so they have no power left.

Considering that Dowd had romantic relationships with a sex addict, then with a drug addict (both married at the time), I don't give much credence to her pontificating on what a man should be like.
ReplyDeleteAs for Noonan, she adored Ronald Reagan beyond belief. And was proud to write his speech at Bittburg. 'Nuff said.
