The secrets a president must keep

I mostly agree with Booman's take on the issues President Obama faces when dealing with the CIA. But I wouldn't use the word "fear" to describe his position.

The way I see it is that the CIA has been granted the ability to "go rogue" almost since its inception. We give a president 4 or 8 years to turn around a culture that has been embedded there for decades.

So I'm not completely comfortable with what I hear from President Obama about the CIA. But what I am comfortable with is that I know what kind of man our President is...where he's positioned his North Star. And I'm also aware that I don't know the secrets he has to keep.

    1. That's what happens when you try to suss out HOW the CIA goes rogue. Its why I admit that I don't know the secrets a president has to keep.

  2. I'm glad to see you feeling similarly to me in this. I don't get the whole holding the CIA accountable, perp-walk the Bush Admin line of thinking. I absolutely don't think the President is afraid of the Intelligence community. He's a pragmatist and knows he can't get good intel if he starts causing problems for that community. I believe that if the President thought there really was something egregious going on in that community, he'd find a way to address it, and would have a little chat with someone, perhaps suggesting they turn in their resignation. A President has to make decisions and live with stuff that the rest of us aren't prepared to accept. I would imagine that the alternative is worse.

    1. Funny factoid: Citations of pithy quotations on the internet have a startlingly low ratio of appropriate to inane usages. You've failed to raise that average, Anonymous.
