How to handle a heckler

This is the kind of thing Americans should notice: Compare and contrast two different ways of dealing with a heckler.

First, here's Gov. Chris Christie - who prefers the "sit down and shut up" approach.

And now here's President Barack Obama's "That's what America is all about" approach.

Who sounds more like a tyrant?

  2. Imagine if Sen. Barack Obama when he was running for President if he had talk to people like that. We can only imagine what the media would have said, and omg what Fox and the right wing hate radio media would have said about that angry black man. Gov. Chris Christie gets away with his behavior because he is white. He is a big bully who think people are afraid of him.

    1. 'He is a big bully who think people are afraid of him.'

Christie KNOWS people - in NJ at any rate - are afraid of him. He won a second term didn't he?

    2. No one in NJ is afraid of Christie. The NY/NJ media market (which includes the major cable networks) loves the crap that he spews because it makes them feel good to see a "tough talking" Republican tell the lower class folks to "shut up". What you don't see from Christie is when the cameras are away and constituents are letting him have it nonstop. He's not just a bully, but a coward. And that's why he didn't run against Obama in 2012.

  3. Morning, SP! Wasn't that Christie response appalling and crass? Typical Christie, and so shockingly disrespectful of voters.

Did you see this PBO response (see below) to a heckler? I like it best primarily BECAUSE HE TELLS HER WHO TO HECKLE - I get really ticked when ill-informed people interrupt the President on issues he clearly supports. I think all ignorant hecklers of the President, and of the mechanics of US government, should be so redirected.

    1. There were many videos of PBO responding to hecklers to choose from. I liked the one I picked to contrast how degrading and demeaning Christie was with PBO's affirming of the person. That is such a powerful contradiction!!!

    2. A powerful contradiction indeed! Aren't we blessed (and smart ;-) ) to have chosen twice a man who respects the dignity of others and who is such a great teacher-leader? Though, from plenty of online examples, I know Christie is a bully, the first time I saw the clip you used I was both disgusted and bewildered. I don't get how he could have so easily won a 2nd term when he repeatedly insults voters who question him.
