McConnell vs Cruz

While a lot of pundits are caught up in assessing the race for the 2016 Republican nomination, I am much more interested in the current battle of McConnell vs Cruz.

As I mentioned last week, Senator Cruz is turning up the heat on Majority Leader McConnell over the confirmation of Loretta Lynch as our next Attorney General.

Today we learn that McConnell threw a bit of a humorous punch back at Cruz.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) made a few wise cracks over the weekend, including a joke drawing on Sen. Ted Cruz's (R-TX) previous statement that he would throw himself in front of a train "to stop anything short of" Obamacare's complete repeal.

"That idea has some merit to it," McConnell joked Saturday at an Alfalfa Club dinner, according to The New York Times.
At the same time, Senator McConnell is crying some bitter tears.
“What I would also remind everybody and mentioned to our House friends at our joint retreat: How would you like to have to get 261 votes on almost everything you do?” McConnell said in a phone interview. “I hope that some day we will have a supermajority in the Senate, but for 100 years we haven’t, and there are some obvious limitations.”
I suppose I could go with, "I feel your pain, Mitch." But the truth is that I'm feeling a huge dose of schadenfreude that his own tactics are coming back to bite him in the ass.
