What strikes me today is how the chaos among Republicans in Congress is paralleled by the chaos that currently exists in their presidential primary. Here is how I see the various roles being played in each:
The role of ineffective Speaker Boehner belongs to RNC Chairman Reince Priebus.
The role of the old-guard "daddy" Majority Leader McConnell trying to get the troops in line is played by Jeb Bush.
The role of the potential "savior" Rep. Paul Ryan who could bring them all together goes to your choice of either Gov. John Kasich or Sen. Marco Rubio.
And, of course, the role of the lunatic Freedom Caucus challenging all of the above is shared by Donald Trump, Ben Carson, Carly Fiorina and Ted Cruz.
This is what happens to a Party when they abdicate their responsibility to govern by fueling the anger of their post-policy base in a naked attempt to simply gain power. It doesn't just make Congress dysfunctional, it undermines the entire structure of the GOP.
One assumes that the chaos that has erupted over picking the next Speaker of the House will be settled before the conclusion of the presidential primary. If so, it might tell us something about how Republicans will go about resolving the mess that has emerged in choosing a 2016 candidate.
