The survey, conducted from July 15-17, suggests that Americans side with President Obama on what a deal to raise the debt ceiling should include: the president has repeatedly called for tax increases for wealthy Americans, as well the elimination of tax loopholes that benefit corporate interests, to go along with spending cuts as part of a "balanced approach" to lower the government's deficit.
According to the poll, 66 percent of Americans believe that the deal to raise the debt ceiling should include both spending cuts and tax increases. Only 28 percent said they thought the deal should contain spending cuts exclusively, and a mere three percent wanted it to include tax increases only.
We've known for a long time that the public supports tax increases as part of the deal. But this is the first time I've seen polling on how many people join the poutragers in screaming about the spending cuts...3 f*cking percent.
I'm sure this poll want matter; the GOP does whatever they want and still have the nerve to say it's what the American people want.

ReplyDeleteYeah, we've known for a while that the voters aren't with the Republicans. They're running scared of primaries from the tea party set.
But I find it fascinating in what it says about how little support the poutragers have.
I think the poutragers may be finally losing what little power they had. At least I hope so.
ReplyDeleteMy pessimism aside, it's good to know those polled agree with spending cuts AND the raising of taxes. I guess some are paying attention, despite the GOPs efforts to muddy the issue.
