I'd like to highlight one more section of President Obama's speech in Detroit yesterday. It was a direct challenge to Republicans.
I’m going to propose ways to put America back to work that both parties can agree to, because I still believe both parties can work together to solve our problems. And given the urgency of this moment, given the hardship that many people are facing, folks have got to get together.
But we’re not going to wait for them. We’re going to see if we’ve got some straight shooters in Congress. We’re going to see if congressional Republicans will put country before party. We’ll give them a plan, and then we’ll say, ‘Do you want to create jobs? Then put our construction workers back to work rebuilding America. Do you want to help our companies succeed? Open up new markets for them to sell their products. You say you’re the party of tax cuts? Well then, prove you’ll fight just as hard for tax cuts for middle-class families as you do for oil companies and the most affluent Americans. Show us what you got.
The time for Washington games is over. The time for action is now. No more manufactured crises. No more games. Now is not the time for the people you sent to Washington to worry about their jobs; now is the time for them to worry about your jobs.
Could he make it any clearer? That's the plan...no more games, no more hostages. Show us what you got on the number one issue facing Americans - jobs.
Joe over at Hope and Change got a sneak peak at the Republican response to President Obama's speech this Thursday. Shhh...don't tell anyone, but just between you and me, here's a look.
;-)
The contrast will be made as clear as the difference between night and day. And then we'll take it to the voters.
The cycle continues....
ReplyDeleteAgain, President Obama goes out and speaks to people about the issues. Something he's done for months.
Again, the MSM act as though this was the first time he did this.
Again, the GOP cries foul and claims that the President doesn't care about the American people.
Again, some on the Left decry what Obama is doing and claims that a)it isn't enough b) it doesn't matter, and c) that this is the first time Obama did this (which it isn't).
Cue more howls about how the President is no better than the GOP.
Now, in the real world, those who can see once again spot the sharp, clear contrast between the Democratic President and the GOP....one wants to (and has done a lot) to help as many people as possible, while the other just doesn't care and only wants to give to the wealthy and powerful.
It couldn't be any more simple. So why do so many have such a problem seeing this?
Good post as usual. I wonder if the professional left considers this an appropriate use of their "bully pulpit" requirement for Obama. I wouldn't hold my breath, however. I think too many of them were enjoying their day off from work eating hotdogs and hamburgers.
