Scott Walker's Record

A few weeks ago, I suggested that the antidote to Scott Walker would be to compare his record to that of Gov. Mark Dayton in Minnesota. But it's also telling to see how his state's economy compares to the rest of the country.

Scott Walker's Wisconsin ranks:
That - my friends - is what conservative economic policies will do to a state.

As for Scott Walker, his favorite punch line these days seems to be: "You don't have to go to the center to win the center." I'd suggest that once those in "the center" actually take a look at his record, he won't be going anywhere but home.

  1. Walker is right down there with Sam Brownback. They took two vital, functioning state governments and economies and destroyed them with their extremist ideology. Yup. That'll help.

  2. I don't know how Wisconson will handle their new conservative economics, but an argument could be made that when an economy has to change from liberal ideas to conservative, there is pain before it gets better. But that is another discussion for another day.

If you compare the conservative states (like Texas) with the more liberal ones there is no contest. Texas did not suffer an economic downturn in 2009-2011, just a slowdown while most of the rest of the country crashed. We have also recovered and have been prospering for years now. Jobs are available, housing values are at all time high, companies moving here in droves ... We as a conservative state are doing GREAT thanks to our Pproach.

Try comparing a long time conservative state with the more liberal ones over the past decade and you will see that conservative ones will win almost every time. Comparing yourself to a state that is recovering from caos and turmoil should not make oneself all that proud.

  3. I think that many are misreading Walker's remark "You don't have to go to the center to win the center." What he means is that you can simply lie about what you plan to do, call your opponent a liar for pointing out what you are likely to do, and the center will vote for you because they can't believe you would lie right to their faces. Case in point: 34% of people from union families who voted in 2014, voted for Scott Walker, about 170,000 voters. If even half of them would have realized that Walker was lying, Mary Burke would be our governor.

  4. It all comes down to who do the voters like the most. We would love to say they actually base their decision on who they vote for based on economic concerns that they rate as their most important concerns, but the truth is voters don't understand enough about their economic concerns to know who to trust. We can trot out all the charts and graphs we want about how well the US economy does under Democratic Presidents and how poorly the US economy fares under Republican Presidents, but in the end it simply doesn't resonate with voters.

Why Christian nationalists fear freedom

For years now a lot of us have been trying to understand why white evangelical voters remain so loyal to Donald Trump. I believe that the an...
