It seems to me that Malia is Barack (calm, contained) and Sasha is Michelle (a bit of a spitfire). And while its clear that Barack and Michelle simply adore both of their daughters, as is the case in many 4-person families, there is a special connection between Barack and Sasha as well as between Michelle and Malia...opposites DO attract. LOL
