The Wire: Colvin and Wee-Bay on fatherhood

When it comes to fatherhood, it sometimes comes down to very difficult choices. In this clip from The Wire, Colvin steps up on Namond's (Nay's) behalf. That's pretty righteous. And yet I can't help but think that the real test of fatherhood here is the one faced by Wee-Bay. Powerful stuff!!!

  1. I regret that the clip doesn't go on a bit more to see Wee-Bey's response. I adore Wee-Bey. Far and away my favorite from that group of characters. Hassan Johnson absolutely knocked it out of the park.

Love Colvin, too, but a different kind of love.

    1. If I remember right, that scene ends there. We find out later than Wee-Bey agreed to Colvin's offer.

It struck me that in the end, Namond is one of the few boys that survived.

    2. Well, I don't remember well, because it was years ago I saw it. Poot survived, too.

I criticize movies when they have a happy ending I feel is unwarranted, but then I love it when there's a happy ending, even when it's unwarranted. I am glad about Bubbles, too. He was my favorite character.

  2. Somebody had to go in and help that boy. Namond's mom was crazy.
