I mostly agree with Booman's take on the issues President Obama faces when dealing with the CIA. But I wouldn't use the word "fear" to describe his position.
The way I see it is that the CIA has been granted the ability to "go rogue" almost since its inception. We give a president 4 or 8 years to turn around a culture that has been embedded there for decades.
So I'm not completely comfortable with what I hear from President Obama about the CIA. But what I am comfortable with is that I know what kind of man our President is...where he's positioned his North Star. And I'm also aware that I don't know the secrets he has to keep.

people need to stop watching jason bourne movies.
That's what happens when you try to suss out HOW the CIA goes rogue. Its why I admit that I don't know the secrets a president has to keep.
DeleteI'm glad to see you feeling similarly to me in this. I don't get the whole holding the CIA accountable, perp-walk the Bush Admin line of thinking. I absolutely don't think the President is afraid of the Intelligence community. He's a pragmatist and knows he can't get good intel if he starts causing problems for that community. I believe that if the President thought there really was something egregious going on in that community, he'd find a way to address it, and would have a little chat with someone, perhaps suggesting they turn in their resignation. A President has to make decisions and live with stuff that the rest of us aren't prepared to accept. I would imagine that the alternative is worse.
